Middle School
Motivational Speaker
Darius James is a middle school motivational speaker who delivers age-appropriate assembly programs for grades 5–8.
Middle school is one of the most critical windows in a student's development. The identity decisions made during these years — who they want to be, who they are willing to follow, what they are willing to risk — shape the high school years and beyond. Darius speaks directly to that moment with programs built specifically for this age group.
Built Different
Identity + Purpose · Grades 5–8 · 45 / 60 min
BUILT DIFFERENT is Darius's signature middle school program. It speaks directly to the middle school experience: the pressure to fit in, the fear of standing out, the search for identity in a world that is constantly telling students who they should be.
Darius shares the specific moments in his early life that shaped who he became — before the Army, before the corporate career, before anything that looks like success. Students see someone who was once exactly where they are.
Students leave with one clear statement about who they are and what they are built for. Fun, energetic, and age-appropriate without being condescending.
BEST FOR
Middle school assemblies, anti-bullying programs, back-to-school season
STUDENT OUTCOME
Students leave with proof that their circumstances do not decide their identity — and a framework for the next moment someone tries to define them.

45 or 60 minutes

What Middle School Students
Actually Need to Hear.
Identity before peer pressure locks in.
The middle school years are when peer pressure becomes a primary force. Students who have a clear sense of who they are before high school make better decisions when that pressure increases.
Real stories from real circumstances.
Students at this age are developing their ability to detect authenticity. Generic motivational content does not land. Real story from real circumstances does.
Energy and engagement, not lectures.
Darius delivers every program with energy that matches the room. Middle school students do not respond to being talked at. They respond to being talked to — by someone who sees them.

Questions.
What programs does Darius James offer for middle school students?+
BUILT DIFFERENT is the signature program designed specifically for middle school students — grades 5 through 8. It addresses identity, purpose, and what it means to be built for something bigger. RED RIBBON READY (drug prevention) and NO CEILING (signature assembly) are also available for middle school audiences.
How does Darius adjust his approach for middle school students?+
Middle school students are at a different developmental stage than high schoolers. Darius adjusts his language, references, and energy level accordingly. The program is age-appropriate and never condescending. Fun and energetic while still being substantive.
Can Darius James do a Red Ribbon Week assembly for middle school?+
Yes. RED RIBBON READY is built for all grade levels including middle school. The program addresses drug prevention through identity and purpose — not fear. Students leave with a reason to say no that comes from who they are, not what they are scared of.
How far in advance should we book Darius for a middle school assembly?+
For Red Ribbon Week (October), book by August 1. For back-to-school assemblies, book in the spring. Peak dates fill 90–120 days out. Submit an inquiry as early as possible to secure your preferred date.
